School-Based Subjects

School-based subjects are dynamic educational programs crafted by individual schools to address the unique needs and aspirations of the students. These subjects are thoughtfully integrated into the school’s timetable, ensuring that students engage with them regularly.

One of the examples is third language curriculum such as Korean offered by different schools, which allows students to continue developing expertise in their mother tongue, further enhancing their progress in other languages such as Chinese and English.

These subjects operate in an open, flexible, and adaptive manner, allowing schools to tailor their curriculum and create a distinct educational identity. Moreover, they harness local community resources—both within the school and the broader region—to enrich the learning experience.

To ensure that the subjects provided by the school are of high quality and responsive to future and community needs, the school can propose, design, implement, and monitor relevant curricula by following the guidelines outlined in the YCYW School-based Curriculum Development Guide.
