Student Wellness

We believe wellness to exist when a child's developmental needs are consistently met in the following areas: physical health and safety, emotional health and safety, social competencies, mental health and safety, intercultural and global citizenship, spiritual health, and safety, learning and character development.
 
The 'Life Skills and Wellness Handbook' is the framework to guide the programmes in this drawer at schools which aim to equip and enable students to flourish in all areas of their lives. The programmes include:

Peer Mentorship Programme: Fosters positive relationships between students and adults from Year 4 to Year 13 (YCIS) and Grade 3 to Grade 12 (YWIES). Led by the Head of Inclusion, it aims to create a safe, supportive environment for social/emotional support, cultivate a culture of connection, and develop students' interpersonal skills, character, and growth mindset.

Student Support Services: Provide additional support for students with learning challenges, including cognitive, communication, social, emotional, behavioural, physical, or sensory impairments, medical conditions, and long-term absences. Our approach ensures all students enjoy a broad, balanced, and relevant education, with accommodations, modifications, and learning resources to support their success.

Adult Education: Involves teachers and parents in fostering a nurturing environment. Teachers receive training on student social/emotional and mental health needs, self-care, stress management, and positive behaviour management techniques. Parents receive education and support through workshops on effective positive parenting strategies, social/emotional and mental health awareness, and collaboration with the school.

Pastoral Programs/SEL Programs: These structured yet flexible periods, including mentor time, homeroom time, assemblies, and circle time, contribute to the overall wellness of students. They build strong relationships, enhance social/emotional skills, promote a positive school culture, and encourage student voice and leadership.
